PROMOTIONAL PACK: ON-TIME PAYMENT POLICY

Support small business with faster payment terms!
Thousands of Queensland small businesses from across the state are benefitting from the Queensland Government On-time Payment Policy (OPP).

The OPP supports small businesses across the state through a commitment to paying all eligible invoices from small business suppliers within 20 calendar days.

The commitment to pay invoices from small businesses supplying to the Queensland Government within 20 calendar days supports their cashflow and puts them in stronger positions for future growth.

Small business supplier details are uploaded into agency finance systems and the On-time Payment register which helps identify them and ensure they get paid within 20 calendar days.

We all have a role to play in ensuring invoices are processed as quickly as possible.

Please encourage your small business suppliers to register their details on the On-time Payment Small Business Register, which is available on the Business Queensland website. This will help agencies identify small business suppliers and ensure they get paid faster.

Should payment not be received within 20 calendar days, the small business can lodge a claim for penalty interest.

In 2020–21, on average across all agencies, 89.4 percent of invoices from known small businesses were paid on time and 89.3 percent in 2021–22.

Help spread the word 📢

Please promote this initiative through your internal and external channels so that we can continue to support small business with faster payment terms. The On-time Payment Policy is part of the Queensland Government's commitment to backing small business, strengthening and growing the sector, and improving cash flow to small business.

Supporting small business with faster payment terms

The Queensland Government On-time Payment Policy continues to support small businesses across the state by continuing to pay all eligible invoices from small business suppliers within 20 calendar days.

All agency staff have a role to play. You can help by encouraging your small business suppliers to register their details on the On-time Payment register.

Small business supplier details are uploaded into agency finance systems which helps identify them and ensure they get paid within 20 calendar days.

If you are approving or processing invoices, please take all steps to ensure invoices are approved and processed as quickly as possible.

Under the OPP, all agencies are required to publish payment performance data quarterly on the Open Data website. Your efforts to ensure the efficient processing of invoices not only helps small business suppliers, it also improves your agency’s performance result.

Speak to your finance team to find out more about the OPP and how you can play a part in making sure small businesses get paid on time, or visit business.qld.gov.au/on-time-payment
