Release of the Queensland Government Procurement Strategy and Policy 2017
The Queensland Government Procurement Strategy 2017 and Queensland Procurement Policy 2017 commenced on 1 September 2017 and be fully implemented by 1 March 2018. Both of these documents are designed to complement each other.

The Queensland Government Procurement Strategy (http://dtesbintranet.lands.resnet.qg/our-department/news-events/news/corporate/2017/august/?a=87835 PDF) (the Strategy):

  • ensures informed decisions are made about how government funds are used to prioritise Queensland businesses, support local jobs in regional Queensland and achieve more positive outcomes on behalf of taxpayers
  • outlines how we spend public funds to support government objectives to help Queensland prosper; to make it easier for local suppliers; and to create and sustain real value in order to achieve positive economic, social and environmental outcomes across the state
  • is supported by the release of the Queensland Procurement Policy 2017 which will be applied across all agencies, government owned corporations, statutory bodies and special purpose vehicles.

The Queensland Government Procurement Policy 2017 (http://dtesbintranet.lands.resnet.qg/our-department/news-events/news/corporate/2017/august/?a=87835 PDF) (the Policy):

  • commenced on 1 September 2017 with agencies to fully implement by 1 March 2018
  • aims to focus on the economic benefit to Queensland; Maximise Queensland suppliers’ opportunity to participate; support regional and remote locations; stimulates the ICT sector and drives innovation.

Similar to the previous 2013 Policy, this policy provides six principles, which are then underpinned by a range of specific requirements that detail how the principle is to be implemented.

To assist agencies and procurement professionals in identifying and understanding changed policy requirements the attached Bridging guide (http://dtesbintranet.lands.resnet.qg/our-department/news-events/news/corporate/2017/august/?a=87835 PDF) is available.

Further information will be made available to agencies including procurement professionals on the application of this Policy including updates to the Department’s Procurement Framework including templates to ensure they are reflective of the policy requirements.
